Missing beautiful moments!

OK, I get that even some of you that are great photographers have days that you miss shots. The bottom line, I am frustrated. I have two beautiful sparrows who are more than willing to pose for me, and now it appears one of the babies is a part of the scene! I am using my tripod and have tried to increase my shutter speed as suggested. Even in automatic mode, my shots are lousy. The ISO is flying all over the place, and I can’t maintain the higher shutter speed even when I try other modes.

The mom is peacefully sleeping on the deck of the house, and any one of you would have killer shots! Once upon a time, I could take at least good photos.

I have never felt good about this camera (Canon EOS Rebel T 6) as it has acted so differently from the previous model. I was decent in that camera(Canon EOS Rebel XTi) using automatic mode and could also successfully use other settings. I tried to use my current lens on that one the other day and can’t remember the message, but it didn’t seem like it would work. I tried to put it on again, and this time it accepted it, but it was too dark. Tomorrow if I have time, I may see if that works and see the results. Since there is no local camera shop, I don’t know. It could still be just me!

Suggestions welcomed!

Looks like a matter of poor lighting. It seems always to be coming from the wrong direction or is perhaps diffused.

Okay, thanks. Suggestion as to how I could correct it? I am shooting from the edge of the balcony door. Light is on my left.

I have lots of pictures of black blobs that were actually birds. I've been working on it, thanks to the lovely pictures posted here. I've upped the ISO and the shutter speed, and that helped. Now I get recognizable black blobs!

You don't mention lens.......
Try f5.6 to 8,

ss 1/500 for sitting birds up to 1/1000 if they are moving,

You want your iso as low as you can go and get a good photo, or set it to auto.

Put you focus point on the closest eye, and center weighted metering. Check your light meter and set exposure slightly to the right. 2-3 bars.

You will need to go to manual for this.

Appreciate the comments! Well, at least they are recognizable, so that's a start. My ISO is sometimes running up to 1600. Can't seem to control the shutter speed, so still doing something wrong.

They are! Thrilled to see the baby out, and I guess the other is still in the house as the parents are in and out. Will miss them.

Just purchased a birdbath for my balcony that clips on the railing, so hoping I will have more visitors.
