Take the R7 w/100-400mm and w/very likely rumored 1X-1.4X-2X TC you get a 160-640mm, 224-896mm and 320-1600mm for relatively little outlay for what you get in telephoto versatility and never have to change your lens.
No, it won't be as esoteric as some here demand but for mere humans wow, 160mm to 1600mm without changing is pretty cool.
For the wealthy the R5 MII, the announced 200- 500mm f4 or the 100-300mm f2.8 and the above TC will again be very versatile and no swapping of the lens.

A zoom teleconverter?
Of course.
It is apparently coming out with the new lenses being announced.
How it works who knows.
Perhaps like the Canon lens with the built-in TC but not attached permanently and also offering 0 magnification or loss of light.
Fine for BIF, but not all-purpose.
160 minimum without changing lenses? Sounds like birders only setup.
So "never have to change your lens" is incorrect.

100-400mm lens with the TC attached and all that range.
Please tell me where one has to change the lens?

My smart aleck side says, "When you want to take a landscape with your 18mm."

My sentiments exactly. Why is everything under 100mm off the table?

Why ? Cuz biffers think biffing
*IS* photography. No imagination.
Pretty soon, we will have lenses that can see down the road and to the other side of the continent. We won't have to pack a heavy backpack, nor change out of our jammies to make beautiful photos. In the meantime. . .
Architect1776,
Thank you for pointing this new possibility out-I wasn’t aware of this. Very exciting for me, having just purchased the R7, which makes my 7D2 feel like a dinosaur. I’ve been saving up for the 100-400RF lens and this looks like a great add-on, if not too expensive. At 2X, it would top out at 1280mm equivalent, which is plenty for me.
