Don't you have anything better to do???????

Sure, lotsa stuff.

But I needed a break and some entertainment.

You probably really don't want to hear that if you knew your equipment,
you most likely would not have to ask.

Totally unrelated to photography…Try the HopHouse13 beer. Most excellent.

Safe travels.

I am assuming weight is not a factor. I would put the 11-16 Dx on the D7100 and the 28-300 Fx on the D610. If only taking the D610 I would take the 24-70 2.8 which I think is your best lens and the 28-300 Fx. Ireland can be cold and dark and rainy. A fast lens like the 35mm 1.4 can sometimes be useful.

Agree. The one lens is enough.

I think you should have the wide angle on the D7000 and the 28-300 on the D610, those will cover almost every thing

How would anyone know what would serve YOU the best????

People will suggest what will serve THEM the best.

Isn't that something like "What dish in <name of> restaurant will I like the best?"?
I'll suggest Conch chowder.

Exactly! I was about to ask the same question!
I'm primarily a wildlife guy. If I was going to ask this question, firstly, I would have to be a different guy. I would NEVER ask this question!!! Secondly, I don't go ANYWHERE without my Nikon 200~500mm! And no one would even suggest that! Sure, I would bring a wide angle zoom of some sort too. And sure, I would take two bodies. D850 and D500.
Wherever I go and for whatever reason I go, I would never short change myself on the ability to get what ever there might be in the way of wildlife.
But no one would now that unless I told them. And knowing that, there would be no reason to ask the question in the first place!

Take your Smartphone and enjoy the trip. It's so liberating not having to lug all that equipment around with you. :-)

Have a safe trip!

I prefer a pocketable camera for traveling, but in your case, I would bring the D7100 and one lens. Those f/2.8 lenses are bigger than I would like, though. When I had a D7100, I used the 18-200mm quite a bit.

Great stuff! My wife is not a beer drinker and she loved it! Problem is I don’t think it’s available outside Ireland.

I struggled with the same issue before my recent 2-week trip to Ireland. For several months before the trip I snapped hundreds of comparative photographs using my Sony A7ii with f4 24-70 and f1.8 lenses, and also a Canon G3X bridge with 600mm, and my IPhone 12. I shot scenes i though might be similar: sunny, overcast, rain, bright sky and darker foreground, night shot, inside pub shots, street shots and particularly how quickly I could capture a shot. Each camera had advantages in some situations. How much bulk to carry was also a consideration. The iPhone won out particularly in well lit situations. I was blessed with 15 days of sunshine, beautiful cloudy skies, bright green pastoral scenes, many, many street scenes. I uses a Ulzani hand grip ($15) for stability, an auxiliary battery pack to deal with battery drain, and a dongle to save images to a SD card every day. On the plane over, I wondered if I would regret the decision. I did not. I really didn’t need a longer lens than the IPhone zoom provided and the phone’s minor editing capability allowed image adjustment in some cases. Now home, I have done many enlargements with excellent detail and accurate color. By the way, in watching other travelers, cameras were a rarity. Almost everyone was using phones for photography. It was good to pick up the Sony which I love when I got home but am thinking of an upgrade to and iPhone 14 or 15 for my next trip. Traveling light was great.

WOW! This used to be a great forum for those of us who are learning photography and need a little advice. By the way, you answered your own question with "But no one would know that unless I told them". You and Longshadow must have a boring life to have to post things that have no value. There are a lot of photography forums out there that help those of us who enjoy photography and want to learn. So that's where I'm headed. Goodbye!

On a a recent trip to the Caribbean Island of Sint Maarten/St. Martin I shot with my 50mp Sony A1, and 61mp Sony A7RIV alongside my stepson who was shooting with his iPhone 14. I had with my a few lenses which covered me from 17mm to 600mm. The iPhone 14 has lenses that cover 13mm, 24mm, 48mm, 77mm (some of that accomplished with a digital crop) .

The iPhone made some very nice photos, especially in low light, but a lot of that from that tiny Sony sensor and tiny Sony mirrorless camera inside the iPhone is accomplished with a lot of AI. Nothing wrong with that if you are happy with the results.

Once we blew up those heavily AI iPhone shots and compared them to my 50mp and 61mp images from my Sony cameras, it was obvious that the iPhone shots could not hold up in quality to the fullframe Sony shots, and started to break up and you could see the AI artifacts clearly.

If weight is the most important thing, then yes ditch your fullframe cameras and use only your smartphones and be happy with the results. But if you are on a bucket-list trip you might want to think twice about accepting less than the best image quality you have available to you.

Your choice, your decision on what matters most in your photography. Yes as most people do, I do carry a smartphone with me, but mainly for use as a phone and online tool. Only use it as a camera in a pinch.

Here is one iphone 14 shot by my stepson Alex from that trip. It is very good, but does start to break up if you blow it up. And I took this iPhone image and did my best to clean up much of the noise and those AI artifacts in Lightroom, but much of that is still there.

Cheers and best to you all. .

I totally understand your decision masonite. While many here are ready to offer support and share their knowledge and experience in a kind and respectful way, unfortunately there are TOO MANY UHHers that just love to do personal attacks, ridicule, and post rude, disrespectful and toxic comments all the time. Very sad. They really do need to get a life.

Cheers and take care masonite.

I greatly appreciate all your suggestions. I'll post my questions elsewhere, but will check back occasionally to read your comments on other people's questions. You have been very helpful. BTW, your photos are great. Hope to get some like them.
