I found this Japanese beetle munching away on the leaves of the vines in the yard and I brought it in for a focused stacking session staged at 5X magnification. The Japanese beetles are an invasive species and are considered to be a pest.

As a child and even now, the coloration of the Japanese Beetles fascinates. The difference is that my adult question is what does this shell look like when illuminated with UV light??

Sippy, can you check the fluorescence of the Japanese beetle for us? Please!

Dupullum, I just placed an order for a UV light with a 365nm wavelength. It should arrive on the 27th of June and when it does, I will stage some UV sessions with hopes that the specimens will glow under the UV light. The game is afoot..!

Thanks, Curmudgeon. I have no remorse when it comes to invasive and destructive species....which also make good specimens for the camera.

Thank you for fantastic photo of a nasty pest.
Many years ago we had a bad invasion of Japanese Beetles in Smith Mountain Lake Virginia
I set traps, not a good idea.
Harvested around a gallon daily from each. One busted on my head. Not pleasant.
Threw away traps and they became scarce in my yard…

Thanks, Tote1940. Sometimes attracting them to trap them brings more than you would have had otherwise.
