Do any of you remember "Murray the K and the Swinging Soiree" from the NYC area?

I do. However, since I was a jazz afficionado, most of my listening was live broadcasts from Birdland. Symphony Syd (Syd Torin/Sydney Tarnopol) was the radio MC. At live Birdland sessions, Pewee Marquette was the MC.
You know I'm going to get my jazz comments in your post!

I kinda remember him, and I wondered if he lived in Murray Hill.

Murray Kaufman. 1010 WINS NY. It was the radio station for rock and roll in the 1950s. Unfortunately, it switched to all news - doubly depressing.

I was too young for jazz at that point in my life, about 14.

No way, too young!! I started playing jazz in the early 50's. (at 11) Started listening in the late 40's. (at 10)
Young or old, jazz is ALWAYS appropriate!

Go read the manual of the Z!! Time's a wasting! Let's see some images!!

Wow! You must be almost as old as I am. I still have his album "Murray the K's Gassers for Submarine Race Watchers." I don't remember what station he was on. Was it 880 or 770?

I bet your first camera was a Brownie Target Six-20.

It was a big deal to listen when I could pull in 1010 on my 2-transistor radio at night.

A really good night I could get WKBW and WPTR. I think they were around 1520 or 1540.

How did we ever exist without our IPods, IPads, IPhones, smart tvs, Netflix, Amazon Prime Skype, etc, etc.
