I accidentally shot in raw for the first time,I just want to know if you fix them up on your computer and put them in your saved pics on your computer, could I then put them on a flash drive and delete the save pics folder on the computer to save space on the computer, because each photo is 30megipicals or larger.l hope I explained this right. Thanks Jim Bianco

Yes. You can always store files on a flash drive to save disk space on your main computer. But I suggest you invest in an auxiliary USB drive. You can get terabytes of space for $100 or less.

You can use the camera company's software to convert from RAW to JPEG, just using the camera's settings that the software will see automatically. Whether you save the RAW or not is then your choice. Assuming you have a back-up strategy, you could just add the RAW to the back-up storage, just like the converted JPEGs.

If you don't have the Nikon software installed, just visit Nikon.com and find the free download for NX Studio.

I recently bought a 2 TByte external drive. It cost about $63 including tax.

Memory is cheap these days.

And it's always good to have an external drive (or two) for backing up everything on your computer.

I don't worry about space usage either.
If I need more, I get another drive.

External disk drives are cheaper than dirt nowadays... You should have one anyway as a general rule to back up the internal drive in your computer... Sooner or later Murphy will call and you will be sorry. Some folks even back up on multiple devices on a regular basis... Some pics are prob. priceless... Don't be penny wise and dollar foolish.

I don’t use it but I would guess it would handle other formats also like most editing software does.

Since any old editor can handle JPEG, the manufacturer's software is most applicable to their camera's RAW files.
