I've often heard people say that Dean Martin was a real drinker - a lush. That simply wasn't true. On his TV show, he had apple juice in his glass. It wasn't until his son died that he let himself go and became a drinker. He died on Christmas Day, 1995.

Very sad. I'm 85, never had a drop of alcohol, but often imagined how horrible it would be to lose one of your children. I found out when I lost the younger of my 2 boys from Cancer in June of 2015, that it is as bad, even worse than one can imagine.

When I went to college, the local drinking age was 18. I became a rumrunner, bringing booze home for my friends on holidays. One time a friend's mother was out of town for the holiday weekend so we had a party. We drank ourselves under the table. Everyone got sick and we had to clean the house. That taught us our limits. So I was content with a glass of scotch after work for a few years after that. Then I went to grad school and eventually it was time to write a thesis. The scotch interfered with my writing so the scotch input dropped to maybe 1 or 2 a month. Been that way since.

It's good to know what you're capable of.

I’m so sorry to hear about your son, it’s a pain that can’t be described. It’s a pain in your heart that never goes away. I hope that you’ll be together in Heaven

It was all a part of Dino's act. He'd always seem a bit tipsy, and always have a glass of 'something' available while working. BUT - in reality - IF you were really blotto on stage, you'd NOT be able to 'go on with the show'. Much like the 'comedian' Ron White (his mama needs to wash his mouth out with soap) - always with a glass of 'scotch' in his hand, but NEVER misses a beat.

Unusual - most teenagers discover that drinking DOES cause children

Don't know if he ever said this but it's a funny line
