During my three mile walk this morning I found these... Nothing burns me more than to see some "slob" throw something from their car!

We live on top of a hill, and quite often, things like this show up on our lawn in the morning. 2 weeks ago, 12 beer cans and other trash stretched the whole length of our road-front. I laughed, got a plastic bag, and cheerfully picked it all up. I'll get 60 cents for the cans! Doesn't happen elsewhere in the neighborhood; don't think I have any enemies out there, I'm generally and amiable fellow...

I agree. We live on a main road, and I mow about 3/4 of a mile of side ditches to keep the properties looking nice. Cans, cups, bottles, fast food sacks--you name it. One spring a few years ago, my granddaughter and I took the skid steer out and cleaned up everything before the first mowing, and we got almost the whole bucket full.

Around here the cans go into a machine that reads the bar code. Kind of hard to get it to read the bar code on cans like that. You'll have to find a place that manually counts your returns.

Connecticut is a beautiful state…..Our country is a beautiful nation. Sadly, most people when growing up didn’t have their parents order them to throw things in garbage cans.

I remember the ad campaign:

GIVE A HOOT…
DON’T POLLUTE!

I detest litter. It is caused by apathy and laziness, both of which are common nowadays. That is why litter is so abundant.

I think the old adage my parents had when I was being brought up. If I did something wrong, I would have gotten spanked. Once or twice I had done something so wrong, I gotten my spanking but never left my room for a day. No TV or toys or games to play either!

Let’s bring back spanking. Let’s teach these miscreants how to live in society!

At our former home I walked the dogs along the road and trash was so bad that I carried bags to collect it.

Try living in Alabama. I'm embarrassed when we have visitors come down here. Twice though, I've found a pay slip amongst the garbage and a whole Amazon box with address label. Those people found their trash in their mail boxes the next day.

Seems like I'm getting able to see which is finished first, the burger or the fries. It was close for a while (2 of 3 was the count... burger wrappers first, then fries container. Soft drink cups would be third and shake containers fartherst down the road... I stopped the poll when two more competitors opened within a block of each other...there was just too much litter... I also live close to a national park and it's a shame what you see along the park roads....

If I had thrown something out of the car my folks would have thrown me out of the car. It was a cardinal sin.

Trash on the side of the road is a problem that, I think, has been getting worse over the years… and throughout the world. I have been in cities worldwide where it was better or worse but it appeared to be worse in the USA over the years. Children har not taught respect for many things… this being one of them.

My family and I went to Montreal for vacation. We had learned some French. We stopped into a pizzeria. We had a slice and we’re walking to our destination. I was tapped on the shoulder by a police officer. I did my best to use the French I had learned. He remarked my pronunciation was atrocious. He told me he spoke English. He told us that eating in the street is far from commonplace. He remarked that eating in the street is vulgar and improper. We should go back to the restaurant, sit down and enjoy our meal like civilized adults, he continued. He pointed down to the sidewalk and there was no litter. Not even in the street. There were no vermin or insects of any kind. Then he said that there were no pigeons. I looked up and asked if they were all sent to New York City. Jean-Claude and I both laughed. I never realized that eating in the street is considered vulgar and uncivilized. WOW!

We regularly get fine upstanding citizens throwing their whole garbage bags out on our property and occasionally someone will pull into our driveway and dump all their garbage in a pile. It is so kind of them to keep it consolidated so it is easier to pick up and dispose of properly. Unfortunately the ones who decide to distribute it along the road make the job of cleaning up after them much more difficult.

I'm all for spanking. I wasn't afraid of what the police might do to me, it was what my FATHER would do if I did something wrong. Unfortunately there seem to be much more one parent families these days. Lack of a father figure makes it more probable the kids will misbehave. Just one man's opinion.
