Please download/review the High Resolution Images taken with this Nikkor below
Camera bodies used to capture images include follow: D300s; D3x; D7200; D800 & Nikon D810
Some of these images were also taken with a Kenko 1.4 Teleplus PRO 300 DGX Teleconverter (resulting in 420mm focal length on FX) and others were taken with Kenko Automatic Extension Tube Set DG (12-20-36mm) for Nikon
This lens was initially acquired for
Commercial League Soccer assignments and creative location
Fashion Editorials. However I'm no longer accepting location assignments thus selling my long glass...
One lens at a time.

Important Note: The AF AF 300mm f/4D IF ED Nikkor has an aperture control ring. In order for the lens to work with normal (in-body) control on digital cameras, you need to set it at f/32 using the aperture control ring on the lens itself, then the aperture control ring can be locked by a special lock button. This orange "Lock" button is easy to find on the lens next the aperture control ring. After locking it at f/32 then controlling the diaphragm is accomplished from within the camera, (like with newer digital lenses).
Important Note: This lens will not Auto-focus on the follow Nikon Digital Cameras
D3000, D3100, D3200, D3300, D3400, D3500
D5000, D5100, D5200, D5300, D5500, D5600
Z5, Z6, Z6 II, Z7, Z7 II, Z8, Z9, Z50 with or without a FTZ or FTZ II Adapter
Caveat: AF-Fine-Tune can be an important consideration for all F-Mount Auto-focus Nikkors
The following List are Nikon bodies with the AF Fine Tune function (D3, D3s, D3X, D4, D4S, Df, D300, D300S, D600, D610, D700, D750, D800, D800E, D810, D810A, D850, D7000, D7100, D7200).
Note: A few Nikon "Screwdriver" Bodies lack AF Fine Tune: Example is the Nikon D90 etc.
As such it and the few others are not an ideal compliment for this Nikkor (i.e. not recommended).
Also the D6, D5, D500, D7500, and D850 have the latest "improved" Nikon AF system.
Please be advised that the AF Fine-Tune technique is slightly different for these newer Nikon bodies
Google is your friend here. Lots of Videos on how to AF Fine-Tuning these recent Nikon bodies.
That said I only support this Nikkor for the Nikon Bodies I currently have & use.
This Professional Caliber AF 300mm f/4 prime may benefit from AF fine tune if you wish to shoot wide open at f/4 at or near minimum focus distance however stopping down to f/5.6 and that issue typically goes away.
I've AF fine tuned my Nikon bodies on this AF 300mm f/4D prime and the AF fine tune off-sets have ranged between +1 to -4 (at portrait distance). However shooting at over 25 feet little if any adjustments are needed.
This AF 300mm is best at distance a.k.a. outdoor sports (Soccer, Baseball, Football etc) and possibly Wildlife though it's not as fast focusing as the newer AF-S f/4D version. However it's complex focus limiter does help (believe it's the only Nikkor that allows Focus Limiter values for both minimum and infinity to be set dependently for various shooting scenarios).
=================================================================
BTW: This 300mm variant's Focus Limiter has following Separate Settings
15ft---------25ft ---------100ft--- FULL ---------10ft----------12ft-----------15ft
These are analogous the Non-D AF 80-200mm f/2.8 ED version's Focus Limiter 4 Separate Settings:
(3m 10ft - M; FULL; ∞-3m 10ft; ∞-5m 15ft)
Why is my AF 300mm f/4D IF ED Nikkor for sale?
Weight: I'm now limited to Studio Work primarily with much lighter zooms & primes. I recently acquired a used copy of Nikon's AF-S 70-200mm f/4G variant from another UHH member (1/2 the weigh)
Note: Since there are several AF 300mm f/4D ED IF Nikkor variants I've included KEH's selection of this exact Nikkor and have priced my Lens accordingly at a competitive
price point: $289Like KEH I allow Return within 14 days of delivery if it doesn't meet and/or exceed expectations.
This Nikkor is really that good.
As with all Photo Kit I sell here on UHH I offer after sales support to assure you can/will obtain the superb results this Legendary Nikkor is capable of.
Questions and/or Concerns? Please PM me thru the UHH messaging system... Thank you.
