While headed back home here in the Flathead Valley, I spotted this Mountain Bluebird post sitting.

Those birds are abundant here in Northern Arizona, and we had them for several years in our bluebird houses. Unfortunately, the house sparrows came and drove them all out a few years ago. We still see them around, but we don't get to watch the babies fledge anymore.

There are traps available commercially for nuisance Sparrows!

We have some, but they just trap the bird in the house and I have to beat them to death. I don't like to do that, since I'm basically a pacifist. I have a pellet gun, but I can't hit the house, much less the bird, with it. I once built an elaborate trap that I copied from a commercially available one, but they won't go in. We just tape the hole in the bird house when we see them going in.
