As we drove along and my wife said, what the heck is that bird with the long beak? It had me stumped as well, but sure glad it decided to perch on the fence post.

What a great shot. In the early 20th century Snipe were hunted with shotguns. If you have ever seen them fly, they would make a challenging target. They, and other shore birds, were sold in open air markets in New York City

I did see them fly this past Saturday... I tried to get a bit closer to one on a post, which soon gave flight away from where I was. I have a challenge now (grinning)
