Old manure spreader

This old manure spreader was hiding in the grass near Preparation Canyon in the loess hills in western Iowa. Captured a couple of decades ago on film.

Thanks Triple G. I grew up on a farm and pulled one of these things many times. And yes, it was as smelly as you might imagine.

It predates the ones that I used on our farm so I can appreciate it's function and form. I'll have to look closer to see if it has a horse-drawn set up. Oh that smell! Dad used say it was the "smell of money" which in his world, it truly was. I prefer the smell of newly cut hay!

It appears to have remnants of a seat in the front, so I assume it was horse drawn when new, then maybe converted to tractor drawn.
