I have a Canon R6 and its Canon RF 100-400 , a Sony A7C and its Sony 24-105 . I like to purchase a tele zoom lens either Canon RF 100-500 or Sony 100-400. The Sony 200-600 is very nice but for me, it is heavy and too long to carry around.
Please help me if you are familiar with these lenses Thank you.

How about a 2x extender for the RF 100-400 which is what I have on my R6II. If you care to see some pics from it go to the bird section today and you can see some shots i took of a hawk a good 50 feet away. I don't find it too heavy and I enjoy using it. Good bokeh if you ask me. Here are a couple.
RF 100-500 or EF 100-400 ?

RF100-400 with a 2x extender.
Thank you Ava's Papa. I already got that lens and I like it . I want to get a longer reach so I am also thinking about the RF 600 or RF 800 F11.

With the 2X extender it goes from 200-800. That's enough for me.

My thought as well. It seems to me that it is time to decide for one system. If you already have a Canon RF 100-400, why would you invest in a Sony 100-400mm? To be sure, this is a superb lens. I use it for wildlife and landscape, and it has never disappointed. It often travels with me, and its size and weight are bearable, in contrast to the Sony 200-600mm.
I have the RF 100-500. Resolution is close to my EF 300 2.8L II IS which is supposedly the sharpest EF lens made. More importantly, it produces beautiful images with vibrant color and nice bokeh for a "slow" lens. Most importantly, the AF performance is truly amazing. Its ability to pick tiny bird's eyes has to experienced to be believed. Finally, the light weight and balance makes it a joy to use and carry for long periods. The R5/lens combo weighs 5 lbs.
Google reviews of the lenses under consideration. I like to see what actual pros say, especially any negatives. Jan Wegner is a wildlife pro and reviews lenses from different manufacturers.
I'd go with the 2x unless you need more light getting in. With the 2x you will have 24-800mm and be able, when necessary, to carry two bodies and two lenses both ready to go.
I also have the RF 100-400 and travel a lot so I bought a R 2X extender now go from 100 to 800. I get away with it but, it depends on what you shoot.
I have the Canon RF 100-500 and use it with the Canon R5. I'm very happy with the lens. Depending on what you shoot should be the driver on what lens to get.
I have a photo buddy, who owns the larger of the two...he calls it "Le Monster". I think he slightly regrets the purchase...at 83, it might get a bit heavy for him! Only last Friday, he was bemoaning the purcha$e of a filter for it!
YMMV!
