I am not familiar with that lens, but I would guess it's a fully manual one so stopping down of course makes things pretty dark. A solution of sorts is to rig up an accessory LED light with a USB plug, powered by a cell phone battery.
Yes, it is fully manual. I just completed my purchase of the 3 lens set of macro lenses sold by Vivitar and made by Komine. Consists of a 55mm, a 90mm and a 135mm, all f2.8. All 3 are legendary legends with many reviews. The most famous of the 3 is the 55mm. The 55mm and 90mm are both 1:1 macros and the 135mm is a 1:2 macro.
My first purchase was the 55mm which I had obtained quite a few years ago and it sat unused for a number of years as I did not know of its legend story. I was familiar with other Vivitar lenses being not so steller and I expected the same from this one. And the day finally came where I took a few shots with it and I was blown away with this lens and started Googling it and found out what I had stumbled upon some years ago. These lenses were made for Vivitar by Komine and were in a different league. Regarding this 55mm, Nikon made one that was just like it, and it too has legendary status too. But many reviews rate the Vivitar even higher.

But I bought the wrong one. It was just a normal 135mm f2.8 also made by Komine. And as a normal 135mm f2.8 lens, it was fine and nothing wrong with it. But it wasn't the macro. But a week ago, I found the 135mm f2.8 macro version for $50 on eBay. Normally this lens goes for about $160 to $200. So, someone didn't realize what they were selling. Anyway, it arrived yesterday, and I took some test shots with it, and it was just as good as the other 2. But this one was only a 1:2 macro, and on the lens, it was called "Close Focusing".
https://www.theatreofnoise.com/2013/05/a-look-at-vivitar-135mm-close-focusing.htmlI suppose I have more macro lenses than anyone deserves to have. Also have the Asahi Pentax Takumar SMC 100mm f4. another manual focusing lens, to complete the manual focusing macros.
https://fujixweekly.com/2019/12/05/asahi-smc-macro-takumar-50mm-f-4-fujifilm-x-t30/And also have the Minolta 50mm f2.8 and 100mm f2.8 auto focusing macros. And the Olympus 60mm f2.8 for m43.
So, I have probably all the macro lenses that I could ever probably ever need.
For instance, here is a shot using the old Minolta 100mm f2.8 lens. This plant had clover sized leaves and was about the same size and produces these tiny yellow flowers.
