I didn't know what the situation would be yesterday as I prepared to go to a semi-annual high school reunion. I always take pictures, but since we were going to be in a restaurant, I wanted a little "belt camera." I brought my 2007 Canon SD800IS. Although it's old, it takes good pictures. It let me down on this trip, though. How, you ask? Exposure and graininess. With or without flash, exposure wasn't what I was expecting. I've been spoiled by good cameras. The next time, I'll bring "an expensive camera." You always get good pictures with "an expensive camera."

It's a shame how time has treated some of my friends. One couldn't attend because he wasn't feeling well enough after his brain surgery. The guy across from me had a heart valve replaced last night, and his eyesight isn't great. The guy next to me - another Jerry - has an iffy heart valve and an iffy kidney. Another Jerry (There were five in my class) came in limping with the help of a cane. Even some of the wives are looking and moving as if they're old.

One nice surprise - a friend came in with his wife. I hadn't seen him in years, and I didn't recognize him at first. He looked like he was 90. His wife came over to me and reminded me that we worked together in a supermarket. I remembered, of course. What surprised me is that, except for her gray hair, she looks the same as she did sixty years ago. At a casual glance, someone would think she was in her 40s.

Two of my friends are still working. One is a school superintendent, and the other is a doctor. Both are 79-80 years old. They enjoy what they do. I enjoy being retired.

Someone once said that if you enjoy what you do for a living, you will never work a day in your life. I guess the doctor and school superintendent are proof of that!

You see the camera should have at least half of the credit for good pictures. Don't be greedy and said it's all 6 inches behind the camera. At least 50% depends on the camera if not 99%. The photographer needs to hold the camera and push the button.

Yep! The superintendent said that as long as they want him, he'll keep working.

I agree. The bad 50% is the camera's fault. The good 50% is thanks to me.

I moved to a retirement community 3 years ago. 1100 people live here. I think the average age is 73. A favorite thought process goes like this: "If life were like a yardstick, we are in the last six inches. It needs to be well managed."

My wife makes jewelry. It's a passion, and she sells it at the local farmer's market and art walk. I used to sell woodwork stuff but I sold my woodshop and, needing something to do, I started going through the thousands of images I have stored up over the past 35 years and made some greeting cards to sell.

Most people never look at them, but a kind woman was going through them last week and as she left without buying one, she said: "These are beautiful. You have a good camera."

I have more than one. I wonder which is the good one?

she meant the one you used to take the pictures. Perhaps all of your cameras are good.

Good one. To the point without hurting any feelings, instead of saying, it's me that makes it sound good you knucklehead.

I left my home state forty years ago. On my most recent trip back to visit, I told them all that it was depressing. When they asked why, I said it was because THEY had all gotten old.

Did this thread escape from "Chit Chat" or does saying I brought my camera with me land it here?

Excellent!

I know a local woman who makes jewelry, and she travels all over to shows, selling it. I wonder if she actually makes a profit, considering gas, hotels, food, and setup fees. Maybe she's just doing it for fun.

I drove three hundred miles on Thursday. I paid $24 in tolls, which is about what the gas for the trip cost.

Welcome to the aging problem. In our reunions we recognize the dead since the last reunion.
