This was taken with the new to me 70-200 mm f2.8. Testing 123. Weeds are still free, that lens, not so much...

It's a jack but rusted so much you can't tell the top is a threaded screw. My father in law purchased a two-story cabin with sagging floors and roof. He used this jack atop a lally column under the load bearing beam in the basement to raise the floor. He'd go down into the basement and give it a quarter of a turn every few days. After several months, he had raised the floor and roof about 9 inches getting them flat and true.

It looks to be missing the platform piece for the top. Also appears to be rusted to the point of not being functional.

The side handle is the confusing part but I have a newer bottle jack from harbor freight that has handles on both sides.
I love old stuff like this. I think an encounter with a mower blade this would win

I have taken out one of the towers that holds the blades on a Craftsman Lawrn Tractor with much less sturdy things than that.

Good eye Frank, it will soon be in the pile that my sin in law will be taking to the recyclers. It wouldn't even make a good paper weight anymore.

Or, a left-handed smoke shifter. They can be found in any auto parts stor in between the muffler bearings and the blinker fluid.

Thanks John, no editing except whatever the camera might have done.

What a cool story. It has been said that our job as a photographer is to evoke some kind of emotion. It would appear that I was successful this time. Thanks for looking.

True and true. It's going to a place where it can be turned into something else.
