I am in the process of wanting to purchase a new 35mm lens and have it narrowed down to these 3. Sigma f1.4, Tamron f1.4 or Nikon f1.4. Anyone have experience with these and can make a recommendation?

What target body?

What are your decision criteria, cost? Build? Warranty life-time? Are you shopping new or used?

Have a hard look at the Sigma 35mm 1.4 ART... I am in the process of getting one to fill a niche in my EF mount kit... A LOT of good ones out there as these three are.... Read reviews and look at sample pics. Something will trigger an emotional response and you will pull the trigger. Just don't cheapen up on glass.

I think you mean "DSLR". I'm a firm believer in OEM, so, of course, I'll recommend the Nikon.

If your camera is a Nikon, use the Nikon 1.4. It's a superb lens.

For pure optical sharpness, I have heard very good things about the Sigma Art and the Tamron. But, for fast/accurate AF I would look to the Nikon. Flip a couple coins ??

This is your reply billnikon? What an ass! I am seriously asking for someone with experience with these three and I get a smart ass remark like this? You may think you are so smart but you show your unwillingness to communicate with someone who is legitimately asking for advice. Shows what you really are.

I would like to thank those of you who actually replied as truthful as you can.

People like this, just need to stay in their homes and look at themselves in the mirror and fall in love.

Is there a Carl Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 or f/2 in Nikon mount?

Yes. Both. I just got the 1.4. Amazing. But i hesitate to recomend it here because it is manual focus and heavy. However, if image quality is your only goal it tops the pile.

I never used it, but the Nikon F1.4 35mm often got less than strong reviews. The reviewers claimed it wasn't good at the widest apertures. I did buy the Sigma F1.4 35mm instead. I found it to be sharp, but the 1.4 35mm Sigma (along with the 50mm F1.4 art lens) had front or back focusing issues. You supposedly could adjust my Nikon cameras to avoid this issue, but I never could get this adjustment to work well, so I sold that lens. This problem, of course, wasn't present if you used the lens for distant scenics. According to reviews, Sigma corrected their art lenses that were introduced later. For example, the front or back focusing problem doesn't seem to exist in my F1.8 135mm Sigma art lens. I don't know and therefore can't say anything about your Tamron alternative. Good luck!
