The fun part of being out on an 18 day backpack is that you can see a lot of ever changing scenery and experience ever changing weather conditions. We continued down the west edge of Cummings Mesa then rounded it's south ending up in a protected spot just a little west of it's eastern edge. We searched for a protected spot because being in line of sight of the top of Navajo Mountain we were able to get cell reception and knew that horrendous weather was coming. Gusts of up to 75 mph were predicted and temps dropping to 15 degrees. Yes, we got both. Water bags froze solid, you couldn't walk against the gusts and I ended up hiking with 6 layers of clothing on my top half. Never the less it remained spectacular.
The first two images are looking west towards West Canyon. The third is looking east towards Aztec Canyon. I have spent many weeks in the Aztec Canyon drainage and feel it's the most beautiful canyon in all of the southwest. Image 4 is looking south southwest towards what's known as The Camel and The Molar.
The second is my favorite in this set.
That is truly spectacular scenery. I can't imagine being out in that wind! I hope you hunkered down somewhere!

No actually we took a hike- got to see some amazing archaeology (will post that in a few days) and the view of Aztec Creek that's in this post. There were gusts when we were on ridge tops that you literally could not move against.
