I have thrown away several printers, and yesterday my Epson ET2760 just quit: It worked fine for about 2 years, now it won't accept the refill ink no matter what I do. Today I am taking it to Staples to see if they can help, but I kinda doubt it.
Coolhanduke's comment that most printers on the market are throw-aways jibes with my experience.

I feel your pain.

My last injet printer is the Epson P900. It has been printing about once in two (2) weeks. Not wasting much ink. It might be that we live at Sea level and the humitity runs about 45% and the temp. averages 68 to 70 degrees in the room where the printer resides.

For daily bussiness use I have gone to a Lazer printer. Much cheaper and cleaner.

Good Luck with your new printer

Bill

I would like to keep an inkjet printer so I would be able to print my photos, bit I gave up a couple of years ago.

I had a very good HP inkjet printer for a long time, apparently too long. It was very good about not clogging the print heads, but it became difficult to find the HP ink, and I tried the 3rd party ones and while the first set was good, the second set leaked black ink and even after finding a few new HP cartridges the HP black ink leaked, too.

I broke down and bought an HP Color LaserJet and as little as I print, the original laser cartridges lasted 4 years. I replaced them all at once and have a spare set ready to go for when these run out. Laser jets will sit and wait a long time without problems.

I print proofs, as I call them, on the laser jet to see if I want to take them to get a photo lab to produce them for me. I can't afford a laser jet that would print good photos.

I have had a Canon Pro 100 since they were introduced. It has been wonderful. There has been no trouble and the prints are fantastic.

I am in total agreement with you. Have had the Pro 100 now for many years and yet to ever have a problem. I have printed on Canon, Adorama Pro Jet. Epson and Red River papers and the results are all great.

The Canon PIXMA Pro 100 is a great printer, superb B+W results as well as color. My 9000mk2 is still working great, it has to be close to 20yo, I can't remember when I bought it. My 100 is probably around 10yo. The only negative is the ink is costly. Like you mentioned I use Canon, Kodak, and I just started using Ilford paper. I really like the results with all of them. I will keep these printers as long as you can get ink for them.

I’ve had my 100 for a while also. I use 3rd party inks from LD AND Canon paper. Sometimes I’ll print every day for a week, sometimes it lays dormant for a month. Never a problem. I know there’s been numerous posts on this issue with OEM vs. 3rd party but at 1/3 the price for the ink I’m happy with it.

In my Canon 12 yo I used ink from inkfsrm. Cheap and nice prints. Printer decided to go hit or miss and wouldn't start up. It functioned fine but error code
