I‘m 76 and am fine with what my camera gives me with minimal pp…I’m not looking for perfection. My photos are more for helping me remember the places I’ve been, the events I’ve celebrated and the people I’ve shared them with. A few will be enlarged and find their way to a wall; others will be gifted to friends and family and some will appear in a Christmas greeting. That being said, I do pay attention to subject matter and composition before releasing the shutter. Works for me👍
Why would you be too old? If you are old enough to be better, you are not too old.
If you want to use any photo editing software, you should shoot RAW. That gives you more ability to work with your photos.
If you don't want to do anything to your photos, shoot jpeg. There is nothing wrong with either, I just like to play with my pictures and make them into what I think they should look like.
“The negative is comparable to the composer’s score and the print to its performance. Each performance differs in subtle ways.” – Ansel Adams
What would you want to shoot in manual mode? What would that give you? Personally, I use Auto ISO in manual mode, but otherwise, I would use Aperture or Shutter depending on what I wanted to control.
Thank you Larry, for the thoughtful and informative reply! Tom McC

I gave up Lr years ago and switched to Affinity Photo. I am 74, as of last Tuesday.
Actually I was 73 then, now I am 74 as of 9 days ago. One of the things about getting old is sometimes you actually forget how old you are.

I’m getting ready for a potential show next year of my macro, dead flowers, and hummingbirds. I seem to have forgotten how old I am, but it's somewhere in the mid 70’s.

When you get old enough, it doesn't matter.

We used to tease my father when He thought he was 45 for a whole year when he was actually 44. Of course that was 56 years ago and he's long dead now. He would be astounded about what cameras have become. He had the first SLR with a meter.
