While touring around the island aboard the National Geographic Explorer, we did multiple zodiac trips to explore closer to the rookeries and bays. Many of the pictures I published before were taken from the zodiacs. This time I am publishing pictures of the whales which we were privileged to see within an arm's length!!! Some were so close that even with the wide-angle lens, all I could get was their backs!
Sheep are raised by the farmers for the wool and the meat. They are let loose to roam everywhere and rounded up a couple of times a year. it is a communal event and, since they are all tagged, there are no issues who goes where. Once sheared, they go back inn the wild until next time, or they go to the plate!
Icelandic horses are a special breed, which are regarded worldwide and extremely well protected. No horses are allowed to enter the island from anywhere else. Theay are beautiful, strong, docile and those manes!
I hope you enjoy the pictures.
