Rosetta/Emulation Mode is On - Why

My previous post about Lightroom Classic 12.3 issue on Adobe's end resulted in Adobe support turning on Rosetta/Emulation Mode.

I am not familiar with this but appears it has to do with supporting Lightroom's operation efficiency/speed. Can any share their understanding.

As a result I have a header displayed on the Lightroom page like this ... can it be hidden?

Are you running the latest version? Rosetta is needed for older apps that will not run on Macs with operating systems that are newer. I’m not sure what the cut off was.

Rosetta is what's called a 'Binary Translator'. In 2020, Apple transitioned from using Intel microprocessors to their own M1 processors. The problem is that the M1 uses a different instruction set (ARM) that the Intel microprocessors (x86). To allow programs that were written for the older Intel machine to run on the newer M1 machines, Apple developed Rosetta to translate M1 code into Intel code in real-time, allowing older programs to run on the newer machines. As it sounds, there is a slight reduction on performance due to the additional workload. But I've found that the difference isn't noticeable.

It sounds like you may have, either, an older plug-in app that hasn't been updated to run on M1/M2 machines or the Adobe tech was trying different setups, including Rosetta, to solve your problem and left it turned on. It's really easy to turn it off and see if it makes any difference.

To turn Rosetta On/Off, select Go|Applications|Adobe Lightroom Classic. Using you mouse, right click on the Adobe Lightroom Classic icon and select 'Get Info'. In the middle of the Get Info panel is an 'Open using Rosetta' checkbox. Checking this box turns Rosetta On or Off.

Try turning Rosetta OFF and see if Lightroom still function correctly. If it doesn't, there's likely an old plug-in or app that Lightroom running.

BTW, I'm running LRC in Native Mode (Rosetta turned OFF) on a new MBP and it runs just fine. And I'm running PS with Rosetta turned ON because I have an older plug-in that I use that hasn't been updated for the newer MBP.

I saw it, didn't even 'think' to open full screen since Lr was what it looked like - full screen.
