Went to the local V.A. clinic today for my annual check up. As it was, I got seen pdq. ( Not by a real doctor, but by a nurse practioner.) via a Zoom camera up by the ceiling. She only took up about ten minutes of my time with stupid questions. One of them being; do I have any LGBQ tendency issues that I feel I need to address. WTF!!! No open wide and say ahh, no stethoscope around her neck, (I guess that would make her look kinda stupid. Seven minutes later she asked if I had any questions. Some crazy ones came to mind but I bit my tongue. Good grief! A woke VA.

If you would have gone to the doctor and he did this to you, you would probably be billed $500.00 for the Dr. visit.

You're wrong BNSF! I am a disabled Vet. As in free medical care for life. Unlike all you railroad slackies that stand around six deep watching one guy with s**t for spend an hour driving a peg.

Actually, it's a case of the entire medical system becoming woke...but of course thanks to their BS about C***d and the resultant lockdowns and masking nonsense that resulted in more people than ever being depressed, it seems the new rulebook about patient care includes questions about things like that (and "how are you feeling?", "do you feel like harming yourself?" and such) - my GP (not VA) has been doing the same thing for the past 6 months or so.

Those types of questions are normal for assessing one's mental status, particularly about trying to detect depression.
Now that some providers are woke, they ask other additional questions.

I guess it's "woke" to explore potential mental health issues like anxiety and depression, which can lead to suicide. It seems useful to me to ask the questions, and it isn't a challenge to my masculinity, my macho image of myself. BTW "woke " means "aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice), not a bad thing. Better than asleep, ignorant, uncaring.

And yet, this past year is the first time I (and many others) have been asked these types of questions...I wonder why that is?

Eff the scum for making life miserable under the guise of "helping" by using fear as the motivator.

Not quite nonsense. $500 is not unusual for a visit to a doctor. The insurance will sometimes knock a bit off that, and the patient will be left with a copay.

The questions most doctors ask are often required by the insurance companies, the state, or the federal government. When I go to my doctor, he asks questions listed on his computer. The point is to look for areas of concern and deal with potential problems. Individual doctors may not think of asking certain questions, so others give them guidance. It's easier for a patient to express a concern if someone asks a direct question rather than the patient himself raising a subject. The doctor opens the door, allowing the patient to enter, if he chooses.
