Cashews

These are pics of the cashews growing in my backyard.
The things forming above the cashew nut are called cashew apples.
They get bigger and turn yellow when ripe.
The juice from the apples is pretty good.
I haven't done anything with the cashew nuts. I read that you need rubber gloves when cracking them open and get the actual nut. Then they have to be roasted. Guess that's why cashew nuts are so expensive.

I love cashews. I never saw them up close and personal on the tree.

Same here, do you grow the honey roasted variety?

I'm an eater not grower. But I do enjoy all varieties including honey roasted.

e nu
But they're not nuts. Legumes. And strawberries are not berries - but bananas are. Go figure! I get zillions of black walnuts that turn your hands black, for weeks, of you don't wear gloves while removing (black pulp) the nuts from the outer protection 🤮
They're beautiful shots you took⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Nice Photos. A close North American relative of the Cashew is poison Ivy. Handling raw cashew apples without protection results in a reaction similar to poison ivy. Cooking fixes all.

I was just thinking about the cashew trees we saw in Belize. They make a wine out of that juice.

I had some growing in front of my house in Panama but I never bothered them because I was told that they had to be properly roasted before you could handle or eat them because of poison. Nice photos.

The pictures and the explanations were great! I love cashews but knew they were complicated. No wonder they are expensive. Just exactly where is this? Where do they grow?
