AFPhoto Loc: Jamestown, RI, USA

Last week these incredible sailing machines stopped in Newport RI prior to their next leg sailing to Denmark. There was a week of festivities in port in Newport and I managed to get lots of up close and personal shots of the boats and crews while relaxing, repairing, and of course earning their keep by touting their sponsors. I will post those shots at a later time. Sunday the fleet had in in port race and the race ended with the start of the leg to Denmark. Getting pictures of these boats underway was a real challenge the fleet of boats out observing was large and it was really difficult to get an un obstructive view. I was really lucky in that my brother has a deck high enough that I could sometime shoot above the obstacles. So I brought two cameras and two lenses and two tripods. On one I had my Canon R5 with the RF 100-500 and the RF 1.4. On the other I had the (new to me) Canon R10 with the RF 800mm F11. I shot both at High speed continuous and Servo. Both systems were in auto ISO but I am pretty sure that neither went above 160. Oh yes, the most important fact is that I was between 1/2 mile and 3/4 mile from the boats so what you see here represents significant cropping. The R5 with 45Mps has an advantage in the cropping but the 800mm and the 1.6 APSC really pays off. Hopefully, like me, you will find the comparison especially in light of the cost differential between the two setups. I don't think the titles posted so #1,3, and 5 are the R10 setup while #2 and 4 are the R5
