I just bought a SONY a7rv camera and now looking for a lens.
The lens I'm looking for is a 28-300mm or near it.
It would be nice if it were a Sony or a Tamron.
Or somewhere close.

A 28-300mm is what I had on my Sony a99II that won't focus properly if I put it on an adapter and then on my a7Rv.

Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried B&H Photo? They have an excellent selection of new and used lenses from all the camera manufacturers.

B&H is a good place to check as well as MPB and KEH. It pays to compare and these three are very reputable.

As far as I know, there isn't a 28-300mm lens for the Sony E-mount. Sony makes a 24-240mm, but it is a mediocre. lens. Tamron makes an 28-200mm lens.

Having said that, you just bought perhaps the finest camera for photography in the market. Any zoom lens with a larger than 4x magnification will not do it justice. There are plenty of great lenses to pick from, but superzooms don't come to mind here.

PS: I agree that the B&H web site would be a great place to start your research. They sell pretty much any lens in the market. Their web site gives you all the specs. Once you identified lenses that might work for you search online for reviews.

The only way you are going to get the proper lens that you are looking for is to purchase two Sony e mount lenses. 28-70mm and 70-300.

The lens you have for you a 99ii is a Minolta lens. Have this lens also and it works just fine.

I agree with the strategy, but not with the choice of lenses. The Sony 28-70mm is a very mediocre kit lens. The Sony 70-300mm lens is another mediocre lens. Unfortunately, I own it and really don't like it.

The best starter lens you can get is the Sony 24-70mm GM Mark II. It is pricey. I started out with the Sony 24-105mm, and it still is my workhorse lens. The Sony 20-70mm and the Sigma 24-70mm also would be good all-purpose starter lenses.

I travel with the Sony 24-105mm and the Sony 100-400mm GM lenses. The two really cover my needs.

I like your choices for lenes. I use the same lenses when I use the a99ii and my backup camera is a RX10M4 with a built in 28-600mm lens with a 4X zoom so at full extension at 600 the lens reads 2400mm. I am really impressed with the way they built this bridge camera.

First take a look at this from Sony Alpha Blog where they tested over 150+ native E-mount lenses from Sony and third=party lens makers. These MTF-standard sharpness test results will show you which lenses will be best able to resolve that 61mp sensor in your A7RV.

Putting a lens on that 61mp sensor camera that can NOT resolve that sensor will just negate all the ultimate resolution and detail you paid for to get when you bought that A7RV. JUST DON"T DO THAT !!

https://sonyalpha.blog/2019/11/10/which-lenses-to-maximise-the-potential-of-the-sony-a7riv/

You should only be using lenses on your A7RV that rated Outstanding, Excellent, or Very Good in resolving sharpness from this chart. This chart is updated as new E-mount lenses are released, so there may be some newest ones that haven't been tested and added to this chart yet.

The first lens you should consider is the Sony 24-105mm f4 G OSS. And excellent all-around lens, very sharp, fast focusing, with OSS.

The Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 rates Excellent. The Tamron 28mm-200mm f2.8-5.6 rates Very Good. The Sony 24-200mm rates as Bad for your 61mp A7RV, forget about that lens now that you have the A7RV. .

FYI, I have owned Sony A6500, A7RII, A7RIII, A7III, A9, and currently own A7RIV, A1, A7SIII. I currently own 13 native E-mount lenses covering 10mm to 600mm from Sony, Sigma, Tamron.

Cheers and best to you.

The Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 has been a huge hit with Sony users and is rated very sharp.

Now Samyang/Rokinon has also just come out with their own 35-150mm f2-2.8 lens in E-mount and it is even a bit less expensive than the Tamron one. Samyang/Rokinon's latest releases have been excellent native E-mount lenses.

Check out this comparison of the Tamron vs the Samyang/Rokinon 35-150mm f2-2.8 lenses:

Cheers and best to you.

The best wide ratio zoom I can find in native E-mount is the Tamron 50-400 here - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1719896-REG/tamron_a067_50_400mm_f_4_5_6_3_di_iii.html/?ap=y&ap=y&smp=ba_f1_lar&smp=y&lsft=BI%3A6879&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6eXmnb___gIVo_XjBx08hgGLEAQYDCABEgJvcvD_BwE

Yes the Tamron 50-400mm f4.5-6.3 rates Excellent in the SAB tests, but I think the OP may want an all-around lens that has a wider focal length than 50mm, and with a brighter max aperture. I know I would want a wider focal length than 50mm on the short end of any all-around lens.

Cheers and best to you.

The A7RV's high resolution will suffer significantly if you use a poor quality lens. I recommend the Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 or the Sony 24-100mm f/4 and the Sony 70-200mm M2 f/2.8 or the Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6. The f/2.8 lenses and the 100-400mm lens are the highest quality. The 24-105 mm lens is not waterproof/resistant.

I have a like new Tamron 28-200 F/2.8-5.6 Di III RDX that I would sell. Just don’t use it much. $450. I can send pictures if interested.

This advice from G Williams is right on. I used some older lenses on my 5 and was quite disappointed. The 24-105 however, does an excellent job.
