Photoshop keeps closing down

Today I tried to get into PS to do some work and when it would come up if I tried to do something it would just shut down. I tried opening CS5, CS6, and CC23 and they all did the same thing.

There was a screen that came up about reporting the problem and it suggested shutting down the computer, which I did to no avail. Another suggestion was to download the newest version of PS and that didn't help either.

The only thing that I changed since yesterday was a problem with my DxO Nik filters. A friend of mine was helping me with them and we were getting a circle with a minus sign and couldn't change the settings. So, this morning I ran the Nik Collection 4 by DxO.exe file and it seemed to install ok.

Any ideas of what to do from here?

My first step with any problem with Adobe software is to call Adobe support. I've always had good results from them.

My first step would instead be to open a technical support chat to Adobe. More time effective, but the same general idea. You're paying for support from the vendor, use it.

Maybe This!

You have to momentarily disable Defender during the installation. You can also switch to another Antivirus such as Avast

Reboot computer - if that doesn't help, then uninstall the Nik collection and reboot again. If that works then you know it's Nik and you should contact them.

I had the same problem. I called Adobe and they remotely fixed the problem, works great now. It was to complicated to walk me through it.

It may be your PC's low ram, small memory, or disc hard drive.

When you edit, use an external hard drive for the your image storage, and keep the PC as free as possible for PS. Conventional hard drives only last so long, and when they go bad, startup and PS will slow down and eventually start to crash, especially while editing in PS.

Check the minimum requirements for PS and always upgrade/ replace your disc hard drive with a SS unit if you want a smooth trouble free workflow....

Or, contact the software vendor to utilize the support services the OP pays monthly to access ...

This is not always the solution. Last time I called I was having trouble with LrC closing every time I selected the print module. The "agent's" solution was to change all the permissions in the LrC folders. I stopped him as this seemed a bit extreme as I was logged in as the user who installed the program. The light bulb came on: I opened Adobe CC, deleted LrC, and reinstalled. I should have tried that first as it solved the problem which has not recurred.

Just have to be sure that their (Adobe's) solution does not seem radical.
