I just created a topic in the Main Photography category entitled New NIK 6 Announced. If I now enter UHH via the Digest, I cannot find any trace of the topic. On the other hand, if I go directly to the UHH url and scroll through the category, the topic is there. Has anybody seen this behavior before?

The Digest consists of topics posted yesterday. The exception is "Upcoming Topics" which is a random grab of newly created topics; that section changes every few minutes.
Generally speaking, the topics selected for the Digest are the ones that received the most activity between the time they were created and the time a Digest is published - emailed to users who subscribe to it.
Note that the Digest is a sampling, and most definitely not every new topic created on UHH in a 24-hour period. Additionally, since UHH reaches a worldwide audience, there are multiple versions of the digest.
The first page of each UHH section (there are more than 55 sections, btw), changes with each new comment pushing a topic to the top.
Using the "newest topics" link at top of any page gives you up-to-the-second topics, in date/time order (by eastern time zone USA) of creation. Note that "newest topics" contains only those sections to which you are subscribed.

You can find your topic in "Newest Topics." Just scroll down.
