I'm a Canon shooter with a herd of lenses. Primarily prefer outdoor/nature environs. Looking forward to learning new ideas from all you folks at the "Hog".

Not to be "that way" but the OP is in western Virginia (Roanoke valley, the Star, Lynchburg, Christiansburg etc.) and the New River and Coopers Rock are in West Virginia. In "eastern" VA there's Mabry's Mill and in West Virginia there's Babcock SP Grist Mill.

Western Virginia is a nice area (the wife is from there) I'm from the "County Roads" side (I'm actually related to the first permanent resident of the state). That being said, lots o' photo ops in both places.

Welcome to the Forum, Bob, enjoy.

I love Roanoke. I grew up in Martinsville, but went to Roanoke a lot. Got my Private license there. I went to Tech as well, so Roanoke was the go to city. Great view from the Star.
You can learn a lot here on UHH. Welcome aboard.
