DxO Nik 6

I see that DxO has released version 6 of the NIK Collection. Has anyone tried it yet? I'm very happy with version 5 and can't imagine I need anything more. But for the current sale price of $79 is there something really useful that has been added?

Only you can decide if you need NIK Collection 6 vs NIK Collection 5. I would do a trial version and then decide. I use Control Points a lot so I will likely be checking out NIK 6. It also depends on which NIK plug ins you use the most. See which ones have had the biggest changes. I doubt if all got changed. Full disclosure: I use NIK Collection 5 a lot. Mostly ColorEfex Pro, Silver Efex Pro and Viveza.

I only use Silver Efex pro and lately it was always crashing on me but I loved their B&W conversion, didn't see if they had an updated Silver Efex.

I've got a really ancient version of Nik back from when it was Free.

No need to guess. See:

If you use DXO PL6 some of its local adjustments are now available in some of the NIK Collection 6 plug ins. I love using Control Lines to fix things like skies. I do tis in DXO PL 6 Elite version.

Thank you Linda. I looked at the comparison to version 5 and don't think I would gain anything by updating at this time.

Bob, thanks for the link to Robin Whalley's video on NIK Collection 6. He demonstrates both Control Points and Control lines. I have used his videos a lot to learn DXO PL and NIK. He explains things slowly and carefully. He also has videos on other photo software too so check out all of his videos.

Another good source for software videos is PhotoJoseph's sites.

Bob,
Thanks for the link. The video was very informative. Now I'm on the fence about upgrading.
