I am really impressed by the photography featured in several films by directors, that until recently, I had no knowledge of. I've rented either through Netflix or Facets. More info on the films available at Amazon, of course. IMDb too, a good source for many details on these films.
Theo Angelopoulos
Eternity and a Day, 1999
Follows the pursuit of a dying poet on a modern Odyesy - like trek. Stunning imagery, not often seen in Hollywood films.
Weeping Meadow, 2004
Several stunning scenes in this wonder almost makes me weep. The lambs, gently and precisly hanging from a barren tree, for example. Or the boat people scene in their flooded village. Incredible cinematic artistry. Forget acting.

Andrei Tarkovsky
The Sacrifice, 1986
His last film, made in Swedan with Swedish actors. Fantastic scenes throughout, many slow panning shots drinking it all in. Ingmar Bergman has said of Tarkovsky, that "Tarkovsky is in the room, the door of which I am merely knocking on."
Ivan's Childhood 1963
War film from POV of a young boy. In Russian.

Terrence Malick
Tree of Life
Fantastic imagery where the story line carried by Sean Penn and Brad Pitt is merely incidental. Incredible color scenes totally envelop the viewer.

Kenneth Lonergan
Margaret
Story of a New York City High School student who witnesses a woman run over by a bus and the complications that follow that event. Outstanding acting by Anna Paquin.

If nothing else happens in this sub-forum, I hope that introducing these masterpieces of cinema to some, will help open new vistas and ideas to pursue in their own personal work. Including their still photography:arrow:
