I admit I'm a music snob with very particular tastes. I gravitate towards musicians & singers who have invested the time to learn theory, harmony and composition.
Here's a singer who demonstrates musicianship. Probably most have not heard of her. I appreciate her style and musicianship.
Sue Raney performs!

She's very good. A real voice with excellent range. Not exactly a Sarah Vaughn but very good. We lost a great soprano this past week as Grace Bumbry died. One of the greatest opera stars of her era.

...style *plus*...great rendition. I dunno if you've delved into Post Modern Jukebox, Mark, but Haley Reinhart will cure all disease...and PMJ is the real deal.

...oh, here's another with three ladies...

She has a different style than Sarah, but has an excellent voice. Check out Samara Joy. In my opinion, the best ever!

If you check out my posts you'll find quite a few performances of her.

I'M with you Mark
When I go to the grocery store by the time I leave I am about ready to fight from listening to what they call music, Monotone howling and the same phrase over and over.
I'm almost to the point of getting a headset and a player of some sort, But I can't stand having "Plugs" in my ears.
A good friend of mine who is almost deaf used to complain about having to wear hearing aids, She now considers them a blessing, She turns them off when she don't want to hear this kind of crap.

We now live in a time of elevator music, seemingly present everywhere we go. Someone else's taste in music broadcasts itself into our consciousness to influence our behavior.

In a commercial setting, elevator music supposedly puts the shopper in a buying mood.

I find myself repelled when I have to do my business while listening to "rap crap." I prefer quiet over it any day.

The stores I frequent play jazz. However most diners play the current scene, which for me is annoying and interferes with my ability to follow conversation. I have an extreme high frequency hearing loss. I've worn hearing aids for 46 years.

Her rendition of “Lady be Good” is wonderful. I can’t listen to it too many times.
