I have been working at becoming more proficient in dealing with low light. A couple of weekends ago I was down on the Texas Coast and did an early morning hike along a bayou. Here is one of the photos I took with my Nikon D500 and 80-400 lens (f/5.6, 1/500, ISO-2200, 400mm). I need to update the firmware on my camera and begin shooting RAW, with post processing, but that is still a little further down the road. Thanks! Tom McC

Interesting "pose", but is the bird really pinkish?

Hi Mike...I too was surprized at the pinkish tinge on the underparts of this bird. I looked at the eBird and Birds of the World websites and saw nothing like it. I do know that Northern Cardinals have been reported with aberrant coloration on many occasions but I am not sure what is going on here. Perhaps I will submit it to the folks at Cornell and see what they say. Thanks! Tom McC

Well done…. It does look like it might be a juvenile Cardinal, but I’m not an expert by any means.

It's a female. That color is not unusual in a female especially in certain light and from that angle. Nice shot.
