For those who have successfully sold gear here, what methods of payment are best for both buyer and seller. Which are more secure to make sure they cannot be reversed. I need to get rid of some gear.
I’ve used Zelle and also a wire transfer. Zelle is very easy and cost free. Pay pal is costly and will never use it.

Paypal -- it protects both the buyer and seller. Some people will ask you to pay as friends and family but disregard those since doing so eliminates the protection PP offers. If they are against paying the PP fee which is about 3 1/2%, just tell them you will pay 3 1/2% more for the item. If they do not agree, just pass that offering by. If you buy something that does not meet your expectations, and you try to use the PP guarantee, you may be asked to contact the seller and try to work it out. If the issue can't be resolved, PP will give you a refund. This process of asking you to contact the seller and their attempt to mediate the situation may take up to three weeks but you will eventually get your money back. I have had to use their guarantee at least five times (not from sellers here but on "sponsored" items bought from Amazon and paid for with PP). Because of this, I no longer will order off Amazon if it is a sponsored item. If Amazon themselves do not stock the item I will not purchase it. My experience here on UHH has been very good. I have bought and sold quite a few items from here, and the PP transactions have been very positive.

If you think 3 1/2% is costly, you should check out what it would cost to make a piece of equipment whole if it was not right when you received it and the seller was not willing to refund you or pay the repair bill! If you offer a piece of equipment at a reasonable price (somewhat lower than used camera places like MBP and KEH), most buyers wouldn't blink at adding 3 1/2% to cover the cost. Costly -- no, not in comparison to what could happen. I'm not saying people are dishonest on this site -- probably 99% are upstanding citizens and photographers but there is always that 1. Also, it may not even be a case of dishonesty but just a difference of opinion about the condition of an item. The seller lists the item as a 9 and the buyer thinks it is a 7.5 and requests a refund. The seller may not want to refund the item and tells the seller they will refund some dollars to them. If that doesn't satisfy the buyer and the seller doesn't want the item back, there is no recourse other than take his offer of a reduced price. With PP, you could get your money back. Insurance is not free and that is exactly what PP offers.
I have used money orders. Old fashioned but it works great.
