Both S5 II and IIX have cooling fans to allow very high bit rate video. They don’t overheat.

He is always the problem. They been making processors more efficient. There are limits and there’s only so much forced air can do. I seem to remember reading about sodium filled pushrods in World War II radial engines. They were used to help conduct heat from the inside to the outside, which was a big problem with those big radial engines.

Speaking of color, I do not care for the bright colors of some of the lower end cameras (red) but wonder why manufacturers do not offer something in a more neutral color such as, dare I say it, Coyote or tan? Black gets so danged hot. I was once on a hike in the desert and my slung camera literally went on the fritz due to heat. And it was not that hot that day. The temp difference is substantial between black and tan. I like the esthetics of a silver and black camera but would prefer a very neutral color.

And I sure do agree on wishing Panny success. The more actors in the camera world the better the innovation.

I have never been hiking with a blazing sun ooking my camera cuz I never "wear" a camera ... its in the bag until Im about to actually use it.

Panasonic has long had the best heat mitigation systems. I have a GH4 that I've used in 95°F and direct sun for hours, without overheating. I only had to stop to change memory cards and batteries. Part of the reason was that Micro 4/3 chips are 1/4 the area of full frame and about half the area of APS-C. There just wasn't that much heat to dissipate.

The GH6, S5 II, S5 IIX, and S1H all have fans, so they can really crank the bit rates on video files.

The full frame S5 IIX can do Apple ProRes / 59.94Hz / [5.8K] 5776x3056 (17:9) 29.97p, 1.9Gbps (ProRes 422 HQ) / 1.3Gbps (ProRes 422) when connected to a fast, external USB SSD. The camera may stop itself to cool down at the very highest resolution and frame rates. If that's an issue, use a GH6...

I have and even taking care to keep the camera on my shady side and in shadow, I have had cameras overheat and shut down, and that’s shooting stills not video.

Having lived in a "Dry heat" as well as steaming jungles. When I did have a camera, outside of a small instamatic I could conceal under my hat, I have never had a camera fail due to heat and exposure to the sun. Up to 122 degrees F.

They usually don't fail when making stills. It's when recording video that many dSLRs and mirrorless bodies overheat.

True, but the comment was just carrying it around not in use at all.

Ha! Seems like a call to customer service would be in order.

In the early days of hand calculators I had one that would not work if it was cold. I had to keep it inside my coat next to my skin on those cold Windy City days. I finally upgraded to an HP15C which I still use 35, Holy cow, years later.
