What are recommendations for the best wireless remote shutter release for a D850?
I can highly recommnd the Vello Freewave Plus Wireless
Remote. I have used mine on my Nikon D5600 with perfect results for over two years and never had a glitch. They have excellent customer support. Sorta pricey but well worth it. I think I bought mine at B&H.
Be sure read the owners manual and then read it again.

Thanks Trapper. I'll take you advice as I rarely read the instructions or take orders from my wife.
A bit of further advice. Make sure the 850 is compatible with the Vello device, some cameras are not listed. I have stood well over 100 feet from the camera which was mounted on a tripod, and taken pictures with this unit, no problems at all. If you plan to only occasionally take a remote picture, the Nikon MC-DC2 might well be all you need. It is cable operated, cable up to about 6', and works flawlessly. I use my MC-DC2 whenever I am too lazy to trot out the Vello, usually when I am planning to take only a few images. Plus it is a good deal cheaper than the Vello.

I use the Vello FreeWave Micro Wireless Remote on my D850. Have taken hundreds of pictures with it without issue....
I have one from Vello thru Amazon. It can take single shots, multiple ones, bulb photos and has a timer. It will also auto focus if you set the camera to use the shutter half press instead of BBF. It think the name changed but it's still on Amazon for $30 if I remember right. Works great on my d850.
POCKET WIZARDS
Been using them for decades.... the best!
