One of the last games before the playoffs start this coming week.
95% of the shots are taken with a Nikon D4 paired with a Nikon 200-500 5.6 vr.
The other 5% Nikon D500 with a 80-400 4.5-5.6 vr. (The plays at third base)
A fun game with lots of hits and runs.
1/2500 at 7.1 auto white balance, and auto iso.
More examples of your fine work Jules. Who won?

Just saw this gallery on Maxpreps (snooping on your work as usual). #3 is picture perfect, I like it (all of them are great as usual). Hopefully I can get another baseball game in before the season ends for the teams I follow.

Yeah no secrets, can't hide our stuff lol... Number 3 I like the best too. There is a 3-4 shot sequence that I took of the play. Playoffs start this coming week. I hope to shoot at least two games this week and the finals next week. We shall see how I hold up.
I enjoy looking at your galleries too. We can still learn from each other.
Have a good week.
Jules
Fine work as always! You captured some great emotion along with the action.

Rab-Eye I always try to capture the emotions that go with the game. The highs and the lows.

Jules, very true on learning from each other! Speaking of learning, where are you positioned for this series of shots and where are you positioned normally and how low are you (sitting on a chair, the ground, in the dugout shooting over the wall)? Do you ever go up higher behind home plate and shoot thru the net? Share your secrets my man!

Ok sports fans here is how I approach the game. One hour before the game I shoot the "mommie shots" hopefully getting all the players and the ones that don't play in the game. First three innings or so I shoot from the 3rd base dugout. (no ladders, no over the fence) I get to go pretty much where I want to. Having free to roam around is great. The umpires always say "get my good side". If I hear that one more time I am going to scream. When they ask for a pic and they give me their email I always oblige. You never know those same umpires you will run into again when they ref basketball, etc.
Anyway the next 2-3 innings I go over to the 1st base dugout and shoot from my little stool the right handed batters, running to first, pick-off attempts. Then it's back to 3rd. With my gear Nikon D4 200-500 5.6 vr lens I can cover all the bases. With my D500 80-400 4.5-5.6 I can shoot the close plays at third and home, even 2nd base.
I missed a great play at the plate the other day because I was right in the middle of switching cameras like a fool just got messed up oh well it happens.
Always try to get emotion shots both celebration and sadness like after striking out. All part of the great game of baseball-softball. SHOOT LOW AND FILL THE FRAME & GET THE SHOT!!
I hope this sheds some insight of how I tackle the job of shooting baseball and softball. Any other questions feel free to shout out.

Jules thanks for the detailed response. This is really good stuff. I shoot about 80% of what you do but I really do need to get better at keeping my camera ready to capture those emotions after the play. Thanks for your input! Have to love the mommy shots.
