Regional high school track meet in Florida.
The emotion was due to seeing her time. Her personal best 2 mile race. Later she found out it was her schools record. This evening she received an invitation to the Florida state championships for the 2 mile race. One of only 18 girls in the state. She is the only athlete from her school invited.

Congratulations to your granddaughter. 2 mile race and she is still on her feet, that's an accomplishment in itself. Our high school only went for one mile.
She got an invite and she was the only one in her school to get one - WOW
How are grandpa's buttons??
Excellent photos of her. They deserve to be on her wall

I suspected. Most distance runners do.

Incredible honor for her! Congrats and good luck to her at the state championships, what an honor to be part of an elite group.

Like Rick said... she is decidedly a member of an elite group of athletes...
And a very effective/efficient heart/lug machine... that is a given for a 3,000 plus meter race...
At 100 meters an athlete is primarily in anaerobic respiration...
At 3,000 meters you are indeed purely in aerobic respiration...
I was addicted to 10K races, the endorphins a.k.a. "runners high" were exhilarating.
However I destroyed my vertebra over a decade into this sport, my Orthopedic surgeon gave me three choices
1. Swimming
2. Cycling
3. Making my Orthopedic surgeon a rich man...
I chose 2. long distance bicycling... best of both worlds...
Miss it... I'm limited to walking maybe 50 yards now... lol
Your granddaughter's training routine is likely a key element of her future performance at this juncture.
Please, please see that she has competent coaching...
Her genetic latent potentials are validated, now it is development of endurance (without injury) that may matter most. Elite athletes train hard, and it's a delicate balance to stay injury free...
Thank you so much for sharing your heartwarming story Chuck...
This absolutely made my day.
Cheers! Thomas
Sh I a special girl. Honor roll. Like 7th in her class. Artistic.
