Hey Mike. I was cleaning out some boxes in my basement and found a package of 10 of those diskettes. I also found some that I had placed files on. I still have a portable 3.5 disk reader that was also in storage. It has a serial cable for connection. Threw them all in the trash.

A true blast from the past. Remember the 8 inch floppy disk which held very little then the 5 and a quarter floppy that held a little more then the 3.5 hard covered floppy which increased the amount and finally the memory stick that can hold gigs of info. Today's history lesson: Ever smaller holding ever more info.

Some industries still need them:

"Take the airline industry for example. Probably half of the air fleet in the world today is more than 20 years old and still uses floppy disks in some of the avionics. That's a huge consumer."

He also said that the medical sector still uses floppy disks.

And they are getting "hard to find" because no one manufactures them anymore... despite the fact they we all have a few of them laying around somewhere.

Can't say that I blame you Jim but Bob has a use for them and they should be on his doorstep on Monday.

Isn't that the way it goes though? After moving to Colorado we adopted 8 kids and not one of them had ever seen a 12" vinyl record. It just never existed in their world.

Who knows where technology will take them.

Mike, please let me know the shipping fee to 85281. I'm interested. Also, your preferred payment method.

Bob, I'm just curious what purpose do you need them for. While in their best days those 2.5" floppy diskettes were the king, now one would not be able to hold even a single photo.

Now they would say, "What's a CD?"

That is a more relatable parallel though since DVD's and Blue Ray's haven been phased out yet.
