After 2 months of planning and waiting; the day arrived for my OAT trip to happen. Had a 11am flight to New York...
Don't give up. My wife and I had the same problem several years back trying to get to New Zealand for a two week sea kayaking adventure. I had my domino's lined up. Had a two hour layover in Hawaii. Once in New Zealand we had a reservation for a rental car, rental kayaks, and a ferry trip to an outer island. Looking forward to the trip for several months. We get to the airport and check our bags, and the flight from the mainland to Hawaii was delayed. Airline wouldn't say why, or how long it would be. One hour goes by...then another...what is going on!!?? Airlines saying "no problem" the whole time. they couldn't get a replacement plane to the gate. We may have been able to change to another carrier and get to Hawaii in time for the transfer if we were informed. We had to cancel our trip at the gate, get our luggage off the plane...at the gate... and schlep everything back to our car. We cancelled our vacation and went back to work the next day. It was like a good kick to the crotch. Our insurance finally paid us 6 months later. Now, we always plan an extra day at the front of any trip. I'll never fly that carrier again.
