Beetle Grub Larva

It's beetle grub larvae season and they can be easily found with a shovel around the lawn. I believe this one to be a Japanese Beetle larva that lives in the soil most often on their backs gnawing away at the grass roots and those of other plants. They are as much an environmental terrorist as adults that destroy the leaves of the plants they feed on.

This session was staged using a Nikon TM 5X microscope objective as the optic of the camera. 263 images were taken and processed in Zerene Stacker to produce the image posted.

This is also posted in the Photo Gallery for those that do not browse the True Macro forum.

"gnawing away at the grassroots and those of other plants. They are as much an environmental terrorist" Looking at the mouth area, they are over-equipped and have an abundance of eating tools to fit any challenge.

"263 images " Sippy is a workhorse providing us with such clear images of the unseen.

Thanks, Dupllum. I appreciate your feedback. These little machines are made for eating.

Beautiful shot Sippy. No lawns down here so no beetle larva. Shovels in the desert are used for killing rattlesnakes

Curmudgeon, it appears that everything that lives in the desert area either wants to stick, sting, or bite.

Thanks, Brenda. They make fantastic fish food (or bait) should you find any. Your little friends in the fish pond would be thankful for such a yummy meal.
