That's how many shots I ran off trying to get just one decent look. I'm not sure if this qualifies as decent but it's the only result I have of chasing a crazed turkey vulture in, around, thru, up and over a dense forest. And I have no idea what he was chasing or fighting.

Nice shot. One out of 100 is probably a normal ratio.

World's ugliest bird! Especially if you see them on the ground eating dead animals.

Cool picture :-)

Birds in flight can be a challenge. I alway try to shoot 1/2000 second and something between f7-f11 letting ISO float. I ended up upgrading to a Canon R5 to get modern ai autofocus and I went from 10% good to at least 95%+ good.

From my experience, the ugliest bird isn't chasing anything. They eat things that are already dead. Ugly and with bad taste buds.

No one's ever referred to anything I've done as normal - I'll take that. Thanks.

Amen. That's why I chose a slightly soft focus approach

I agree totally. I actually started to up it to 1800 but the woods were so unpredictable (dark/bright) I was worried about too much ISO noise. Thanks for the comment and congrats on the R5.

You're quite right. That's why this singular (no circling buddies) bird's behavior was weird to me. Thanks.

Appreciate it Mike. Did I read somewhere that you were in, or on your way to, Hilton Head? If so, I'm sure you'll agree that, while it's changed over the years just like a lot of places, it's still a wonderful spot to take the load off. And somehow I manage to find something new to photograph. We've been there every spring/summer for maybe 40 years. And headed down there in a couple weeks.
Enjoy. RT

We leave tomorrow. Pinckney Island and Cyprus Wetlands are on the list.
