Hells Canyon is on the Snake River and is the border between Idaho and Oregon. It is deeper than the Grand Canyon. Three dams create huge lakes. At the end of the road there is a launch for rafts and jet boats that traverse 50 miles of flowing river...with three very large rapids this time of year. I once rowed my own raft down it. My friend in front of me flipped his raft in the first large one. After some courage building, I went through...and made it.
This time of year there are a number of waterfalls from melting snow.
I've known for years that the Mountain Goats hang out across from the launch. They didn't disappoint this year.
