NCSU vs UNC Softball series

Rivals NC State and University of NC faced off this weekend. They were good, close games, but State's program is struggling right now. I favored a position dead center just behind the fence to capture batters in action. I did move along the side to get some defensive shots. I paired my Z9 with the 100-400 shooting in shutter priority. ISO and aperture were determined by the camera. Mostly wide open in the 4.5-6.3 range, with ISO in the 640-6400 range depending upon time of day.

Here are a few images over two games. Enjoy!

Nicely done Rick, very clear and colorful and I really like your shooting locations.

Thank you. Looks as if I will be dialing in on dead center from beyond the centerfield fence and about 100' don't the right field line. Another game tomorrow. Will see if I am comfortable with the results I get. I would really like to get some dugout shots, but the combination of unfavorable shooting angle and the safety net does not lend itself well.

I’m impressed Rick. My favorite is the second shot. The rest are not to shabby either.

Excellent shots, Rick.
I assume at 400mm from center field, there’s a significant amount of cropping?
Thanks,
Stephen

Yes, I do crop the images. Frankly, I was pleasantly surprised at the image quality. I'm going to try a 1.4 TC next chance I get and see how that works.

Fabulous pivotal moments Rick! Simply mind boggling...
Incredible timing... Guess at At 20 FPS and with the Z9's buffer allowing bursts of RAW captures for nearly a minute would be a major game changer – my goodness more than 1000 frames before the camera starts to slow down!

It's totally another world out there for sports shooters.
Kind of figured that there might have been divine intervention that has tethered me to studio only now... lol
Yep the glass is always half full!

Thank you so much for sharing Rick...
I for one truly appreciate what you brought to the table with this series...
Seeing is indeed believing... Cheers! Thomas
