I should have opened your links! My loss!

We have a group talking about getting a jazz appreciation club (retirement community) to have monthly outings and bring artists in. I'm very interested and I've put myself on a path to learn more.

My Dad played tenor saxophone in a band in the 1940's before honoring his Mom's plea to come back to the hometown to run the family farm. I was just 11 when he died, but do have some memories of his playing at family gatherings. I've heard many stories, however, of the pool halls and other "establishments" where his band played. Maybe I have some of the saxophone blues/jazz in my DNA. My brother still has the family saxophone!

That sounds like a really fun club!! I download many audio tracks of jazz from YouTube. It’s easy. I might also mention www.Jazzonthetube.com. It’s free to subscribe, but I’ve been making a yearly contribution for many years. Check it out.

PM me for info!! Good luck in your club.

Thanks for another great post Mark. I'm fairly certain she will never make it to Tucson, so I'll have to follow her with your post and on YouTube

As far as I know, other than a two night appearance in Baltimore, she has not appeared in the metro area of NYC. I live 35 miles from the Big Apple. After Europe, I'm hoping some metro appearances may occur.

Sarah Vaughn has been my #1 favorite for many years. I think Samara Joy is as talented as Sarah and maybe a bit more. I've heard her reach 4 octaves. That's unreal!!

Thanks, Jay!

For many years, North Texas State Jazz Band was one of the foremost venues for jazz. I'm not sure if it still is.
I'm waiting for her in my area too, Steve.

One of the few music links I have listened to all the way through and then listened to her version of Lady be Good as well. Wow, she has a voice and presence.
