I just returned from Columbia, South Carolina. This photo was taken at the Riverbanks Zoo. This ape can reach up to 10 feet in a single swing.

All apes and monkeys have opposable thumbs. One of the early main arguments for them and hominids (The group humans are in, and we are the only ones from that group left on Earth) descending from a common ancestor.
Among the apes (which are much closer to human) Chimps and Bonobos are the closest in DNA etc. Some of the latest research seems to put the Bonobos slightly closer to us.
