Lake Havasu is the place to be for Desert Storm. Many of the fastest boats in the country show up here every year for the Street Party, then The Poker Run, then the Shootout. They are still trying to make the first 200 mph run for Lake Havasu. I believe the record is 184.8mph. These outboard Mercury 450Rs approach $50,000 each and I saw one with 5. The IO are usually twin V-8s producing over 3,000hp. Tomorrow they will drive these through the Bridgewater Channel, (built by Robert P. McCulloch after he planted The London Bridge on a dry desert peninsula and dug the channel to bring water from the lake under the bridge) then do the Poker Run. Saturday, if the weather holds, they will run the Shootout. I'll try to post more of these awesome boats in their natural environment, doing what they do best.
Impressive. I have cousins that will be there, but that's too many people for my taste. Lot of wind down there too, so I don't know if anyone will beat that speed record. Have fun!
Loud and fast, but also very sleek and accommodating. Most are not just flat-out race boats, but ones that can handle several guests in comfort. Many levels above my pay grade!
Interesting irony in photo 5… with the image of the mega-buck go-fast boat, and the “Pour House” sign in the background.
I've even heard some will jump out of planes without a Parachute. 🤕🤕🤕

I liked that one also.. Being a past Boat owner,, that does happen. I had nothing like these boats but it would give most of the boats in this area a run fur there money... but a lot of changes in 55 years...
These beauties will pass anything on the lake except the marinas for fuel.
Near the end of her career, Miss Budweiser mad a record attempt in California. I don't remember the name of the body of water, but it was used annually for record attempts. Bud made a warmup run before doing the two-way pass for the record, but near the end of the warmup broke a quill shaft and that ended the attempt. In the warmup it was clocked at about 240mph. In those days I did a lot of photography for American Power Boat Association, and I believe I was the only one who took a picture during the warmup.

Looks like Elon Musk could find some quick replacement parts there.
A long ways from my pumpkin seed hydroplane back in mid '60s. Sure was fun.
Amazing boats but maybe even more amazing are the transport vehicles
Awesome looking machines!
