Furthermore, according to the LA Times, prosecutors had recently learned that the gun used in the shooting, a.45 Colt revolver, had been modified with a new trigger in a way that could have made a misfire more likely. Throughout the investigation, Baldwin maintained that he did not pull the gun trigger.

Agreed, an operational loaded fire arm should have never made it to the set. I really do not think the mods had anything to do with the discharge of the weapon, just another make it go away story.

Those who modified the firearm ruined Baldwins life and he should sue the crap out of those that are responsible for the modification. I wonder if Baldwin was briefed about the modification before handling the fire. Either way it’s sucks for him.

The firearm was loaded with live ammunition that was not supposed to be on set. It may surprise you but all the shooter ups on tv and movies are not really using live ammo. I worked at Universal Hollywood for 35 years and never saw a real Gun. Knight Riders car had a hollowed front seat that the driver hid in to give the auto drive trick and a short guy not seen by camera opened the doors.

so you're OK with an actor who k**les a girl and then CLAIMES that he NEVER pulled the trigger while aiming at her
gets all charges dropped ....

When the evidence clears a suspect, or is insufficient to hold up in court, then dropping the charges are the correct action to take by the Special Prosecutors.

It sure is especially when it was a modification specifically to the trigger. Being foolish, stupid, careless, etc. is still hard to quantify and set appropriate punishment.

The Colt Single Action Army and most of it's clones, ho matter what caliber, except the Ruger Blackhawk models have some of the stiffest, grittiest trigger pulls imaginable. Requires intent to pull the triggers on purpose. Very unlikely to fire by accident. As for the modified trigger, why would anyone bother to do that on a prop gun?

IF the prop gun was only supposed to be shooting blanks, and an unmodified gun had a stiff trigger, wouldn't it make sense for a movie shoot to ensure a smooth trigger action to avoid potential multiple retakes of a scene?
