Just installed this LR update and haven't had a chance to use it yet. Did Topaz sell DeNoise AI to Adobe when they converted to their new format of Photo AI?

Topaz Labs is a privately held Dallas company. Let me assume (never good by the way to assume) your real question is why does LRC interact differently with Topaz Photo AI verses "edit in" DeNoise or Sharpen?

The new LR AI feature was very slow on my PC.

Very slow on mine to - my older GPU may be why.

My very first attempt at running it, gave me a 10-15 minute time to complete & then tarted out crashing LR after about 90 seconds

Less than 10 seconds on my new computer... about the same as Topaz DeNoise AI. Topaz took much longer on my old computer, so maybe the LR version of DeNoise would take a long time on a low-powered computer.

Photo AI works like DXO PureRAW. Probably because they work from the raw file and create a DNG. “Edit in” creates a TIFF or JPEG which it sends to the plugin.

It worked great on my computer. It only took about 10 seconds on my machine. It cleaned the files I tried very nicely.

Seems to work quite well.

15 seconds to denoise a 60MP RAW file off my Sony A7R V is a bit slow but usable.

It is the slowest routine I've yet run on my M1 MacBook Air, which is quite speedy on almost everything else.

Apparently, to speed it up you need a $400 graphics card in a hefty PC on a 20 Amp circuit...

Lightroom Denoise is a feature Adobe added. It is not the same product as Topaz DeNoise. I just gave it a try and processing time was similar to Topaz. I prefer the combination of denoise and sharpening, and all of the flexibility of Topaz.

Does it only work with RAW files?

Yes RAW only, that is what I read and experienced when I tried using.
