Of the various sites that buy used equipment - Adorama, B&H, KEH Camera and others I may not know about - who in most Hoggers opinion is the best, fairest' responsive and trustworthy.

Keep in mind, each reseller wants to buy low from you to resell higher to their customers. They all mostly offer what used to be called the bluebook / wholesale (minimum) price for used cars. KEH has an online quote system. We see regular complaints about Adorama who receives your equipment and then lowers their offer, as well as being slow to return the equipment when you reject their lowered offer. Of the three, I prefer KEH.

I've dealt with KEH and MPB. Get quotes from both as one may be better than the other, as was in my case.

Has anyone had a bad experience selling or buying on UHH?

Seller may want more than commercial (e.g., KEH, Adorama, MPB) will offer, but may sell for less.

I do buy on e-Bay, but only for books and other things -- never photo. Too much double-talk. Have to research the item and the seller.I have seen people bid more than new once they get wrapped up in bidding competition.

I am not looking for anything, but watch out of curiosity and seems like UHH sales go pretty smooth.

Entering argument: know what you want and what you intend to pay. For seller, realize you are probably selling to an intelligent buyer. Respect both ways.

Has anyone had a bad experience selling or buying ... (show quote)

I've experienced some questionable UHH transactions. More important, any casual scan of active posts shows most posts have little interest in a purchase, where the resellers are nearly a guaranteed sale and payment.

I have purchased several things here from sellers. I only had one transaction that wasn't as it should have been. And was issued a refund in that sale. Some of us use the PayPal app.

I’ve had good experiences both buying and selling here on the forum and with KEH and MPB.

I have bought and sold many items both here and on ebay. I currently have some lenses for sale here. All my transactions here except one have been very satisfactory. The downsides of ebay are the processing fees and the collection of sales tax. However, the buyer has very strong protections. The transactions here are much more based on trust with fewer protections other than the feedback option. PayPal offers some protection, unless the transaction is foolishly conducted as « friends and family » (ask me how I know).

The commercial resellers will all offer roughly the same prices. I did have good experience once with UsedPhotoPro, which ultimately sent me a check for more than the initial quote.

I've had outstanding results buying AND selling here on UHH with just one unsatisfactory transaction (with which I was not offered a refund). All in all I'd rather buy and sell right here.

Are you trying to sell your equipment? I only use Ebay and Fred Miranda. I get between 50-75% more selling it myself. It's YOUR money, so it's up to you to determine the best way to go.

I just sold a lens to MPB and they were $125 higher than my 2 local camera shops. Very easy and no shipping costs. My money was in my banking account in 3 days. Would recommend them.

KEH visits our local camera store a couple of times a year and we all take our used equipment over to have it appraised and they purchase. Last October I took all my DSLR lenses, all professional level, latest models, and in like new condition, approx $18,000 worth to sell. They offered me $1700 or a $2000 store credit. I said "No thank You" Others who were lined up to go through the same procedure, all left in discuss. I tried Marketplace but ended up with a bunch of scammers. I gave up and kept the lenses. They now back up my new Z9 and Z711 systems. But not sure how stop sell them in the future.

I'm so "loyal" to my Canon 5DII that I want to be sure I'll be using "it" for many years to come. And by "it", I mean even a second Canon 5DII body. So, off to Craig's List I went. I had to be patient, but within a week or so, I found someone wanting to sell a 5DII body. The price was fair, so we picked a local restaurant to meet. We went during a "slow" time (mid-day) and sat at a front window. So, along with our soda orders, I used his camera body and my lenses. I took many shots outside the window and looked at the image. I was happy with it, and bought it.

Oh, I did it a second time. Used Craig's List, met at a restaurant, and I now have two "back up" 5DII bodies.

By the way, I wanted to be sure I was meeting a real person, and a good one. So before we met, I asked several dumb questions, ones I already knew the answers to. If he/she could not answer it well, then scratch that 'seller'. I'll do that to anyone I plan to purchase what they are selling.

And, what were the dumb questions?

Fair question: I asked such things as *Does the camera have "self cleaning" when you turn it on and off? *Is the back lcd screen scratched? *Does the camera have a Preview Button? [up front, lightly below the lens]. *What is the highest ISO number can I dial?

If he/she could not answer these four questions, then I cut off all contact.
